1981 - Sandy and Marvel Maze start Support Dogs for the Handicapped, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio.

1981 - The first service dog was trained for Sandy Maze – her German Shepherd named Stormy.

1983 - After hearing about Support Dogs for the Handicapped, a local resident begins a chapter in St. Louis, MO.

1985 - The Columbus Ohio segment of Support Dogs for the Handicapped is acquired by another organization, leaving the St. Louis location of Support Dogs, Inc. as the national headquarters.

1989 - In response to the medical community, the TOUCH Program starts and graduates its first class.

1999 - Support Dogs, Inc. moves to its new location on Page Avenue, called the Dorris – Hank – Maze Center.

1999 - Support Dogs, Inc. holds it first annual trivia night and silent auction fundraiser

1999 - Support Dogs, Inc. begins a service dog program to serve children called the Pediatric Partners Program.

2001 - Support Dogs, Inc. establishes a relationship with the Federal Correctional Institution in Greenville, IL, where the inmates raise the puppies for the assistance dog program.

2002 - The Paws For Reading program is formed to answer the need for a dog to be a reading incentive in the classroom.

2003 - Support Dogs, Inc. moves to its current location in Maryland Heights, MO.

2005 - Support Dogs, Inc. officially changes its name to Support Dogs, Inc.

2006 - The Pediatric Partners Program changes its name to the Youth Service Dog program.

2006 - Support Dogs launches its annual black tie gala, Tacky Ball.

2007 - Support Dogs receives accreditation from Assistance Dogs International

2007 - Support Dogs begins the Hearing Dog Program to service those clients who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

2008 - Support Dogs, Inc. celebrates its 25th Anniversary.

2008 - Support Dogs is a finalist for the Ladue News Charity of the Year.

2008 - Support Dogs receives the Better Business Bureau's Torch Award.

2009 - The TOUCH Program graduates its 1000th TOUCH Team into the community and celebrates its 20th Anniversary

2009 - Support Dogs begins to train Psychiatric Service dogs for individuals suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

2009 - Support Dogs places its first court advocacy dog to help children who have been physically, emotionally, and sexually abused during the forensic interview process, as well as accompanying the children to court when they testify.

2010 - Support Dogs has its most successful Tacky Ball to date, seeing almost 300 attendees to the event

2010 - Both assistance dog trainers on staff receive certification as Assistance Dog International certified trainers.

2010 - Support Dogs places its second court advocacy dog.

2010 - Support Dogs places its first psychiatric service dog to assist a veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

2010 - Support Dogs launches annual Dogs in the Ruff Golf Tournament.

2010 - Support Dogs receives Spirit of Philanthropy Outstanding Community Partner Award from Youth In Need for the placement of an animal assisted therapy dog with an early childhood Head Start classroom.

2010 - Support Dogs places 19 assistance dogs - nearly a record number of placements for a 12 month time period.

2011 - Support Dogs is named Humanitarian of the Year by the Missouri Head Start Association.

2011 - Support Dogs receives the Humanitarian of the Year Award for Region VII from the National Head Start Association.

2011 - Support Dogs receives Circle of Caring Award from Great Circle/Boys and Girls Town and Edgewood Children's Center.

2012 - Support Dogs launches the silent phase of the "Building Opportunities" Capital Campaign.

2012 - Support Dogs acquires the land that will be the new site for the 22,000+ square foot facility.

2013 - Support Dogs celebrates its 30th Anniversary.

2013 - Support Dogs breaks ground for the new facility (expected completion late 2014)
