Public Education

Part of the mission of Support Dogs, Inc. is to educate the community about assistance dogs and the programs offered through Support Dogs, Inc. Because Support Dogs receives a high number of requests for presentations, Support Dogs, Inc. asks that you select a presentation date that is at least three weeks from the date of your request.

Some of the topics that can be covered in the presentation are:

  • What is Support Dogs, Inc.?
  • What programs/services do we provide (Service, TOUCH, and Paws for Reading)?
  • What kinds of dogs do we use?
  • How do our dogs help people?
  • How do we train our dogs?
  • What is the best way to approach someone with a service dog?
  • What are the costs associated with raising a Support Dog?
  • What are some ways you can help?

A representative from our program will speak and bring a dog to the presentation and explain some of the dog's skills or "job duties." If you'd prefer there not be a dog present, please let us know ahead of time. The audience will be able to pet the dog in a controlled manner after the presentation.

Because of the overwhelming number of requests Support Dogs, Inc. receives for presentations, we've established the following guidelines:

  • All requests for presentations must be made at least 3 weeks in advance of the presentation date.
  • Support Dogs will offer presentations to children between the ages of 7-18 years of age at the Support Dogs' facility only.
  • Presentations to children between the ages of 7-18 will be offered on Mondays between the hours of 10am - noon or from 3-5pm, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays, between the hours of 2-4pm.
  • There is a $75 fee for presentations scheduled during the week and a $150 fee for presentations scheduled on the weekends. This fee must be submitted along with the presentation request or received prior to confirmation by Support Dogs, Inc.
