Volunteer Opportunities

Support Dogs, Inc. relies on it's very dedicated volunteer force to spread its mission. Volunteers are needed in a variety of area as described below. Please consider offering your time and talents to help us make the dream of independence a reality for people with special needs.

  • TOUCH Teams
In 1989, Support Dogs, Inc. began an animal assisted therapy program to meet increasing requests from local healthcare professionals. The TOUCH (Therapy of Unique Canine Helpers) This program certifies volunteers and their own dogs to visit hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, mental health facilities, and various other healthcare facilities. • Board Members
The Board of Directors, under the leadership of the president and with the support of the Executive Director, is responsible for the governance of Support Dogs, Inc. and the stewardship of its assets. It requires the participation of individuals with a wide range of knowledge and experience including, but not limited to, policymaking, strategic planning, development, special events, community/civic activities, public education, human and client services, and canine training.

  • Puppy Sitters
Sometimes our puppy raisers need the help of people who will provide short-term care while they are out of town. When a puppy sitter agrees to help, Support Dogs, Inc. provides all supplies and food for the puppy while in the sitter's care.

  • Fund Raising Activities
Volunteers are needed to assist with fundraising events. A fundraising volunteer will assist with planning, organizing, set-up and clean-up of special events. Currently, Support Dogs, Inc. hosts two fundraising events a year. The Tacky Ball is typically held in the spring and Trivia Night & Silent Auction is held in August. Along with the many tasks associated with these events, volunteers have a great time too.
