Trivia Night and Silent Auction

Flyer (PDF) - 2008 Trivia Night
Why is playing trivia so popular these days? Some
may say it’s a quirky thirst for knowledge while others
may say it’s just too trivial to ponder. Personally, I believe
it’s where we can download all that stuff read in month
old magazines while waiting for the doctor or what we heard on
CNN while mindlessly waiting for a flight. It’s where great
minds meet to discuss tiny facts that no one seems to readily
remember. It’s certainly safe place to share all those sports
stats or to expound literary acumen.
Have you ever come out to play at Support Dogs Trivia
Night and Silent Auction? Last year I invited my mother to sit
at our table. She enjoyed meeting our friends, the food our table
shared and the free beer provided by Support Dogs. And, much to
her surprise, she was very helpful in several of the categories.
Later, she later told me that she was surprised at the things
she knew yet at the same time frustrated at how much she didn’t
know.
Trivia is a testament to the power of the brain
and our obsession with the idea of a mental challenge. After all,
look at how many men refuse to ask for directions. They’d
rather drive around endlessly looking for a shortcut they imagine
exists. And, in all fairness to the guys, why do women rush to
a department store sale? Is it really to save or is it the mental
challenge to shop in record time getting the best for less and
winning the bragging rights?
At last year’s Trivia Night, we had an especially
challenging category- the Nobel Prize. I was the Guinea pig in
the pretest on the questions and scored about an 80%. We thought
it was a very unusual category (I’m not that smart) and
kept it in the mix. Well, you’d have thought we were asking
everyone to take a pop quiz about a subject they’d never
heard of in their life. Yet, once the answers were announced,
many tables cheered themselves on because they had answered many
of the questions correctly. They had met the mental monster head
on; took the challenge and won that round.
With all that said, why not take on the mental challenge
this year and get a group together for Support Dogs, Inc. Trivia
Night and Silent Auction? The event will be on Saturday, August
16 at CBC High School. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with Trivia promptly
beginning at 7 p.m. A reserved table for eight costs $160 or $20
per person for open-seating. The evening includes a silent auction,
raffles, great prizes, complimentary beverages (while they last)
plus mentally challenging questions. We promise no Nobel Prize
questions but do promise to mentally challenge you.
And, back again this year, is the After Hours Lightning
Round of Trivia beginning at 10:30 p.m. Those who wish to continue
being mentally challenged will enjoy three more trivia rounds,
receive late night snacks as well as a cash prize for the After
Hours winning table. The After Hours Lightning Round fee is $24
per table.

Hours Lightning Round, simply fill out the reservation form; enclose
